SURFING BIRD was the first in the PERSONAGGI series.  It came about after a good show in Florence where I sold some big sculptures, and then accidently bought 12 tons of Statuario Marble from the  Cervaiole Quarry.  Statuario asks to be carved, not cut and sanded, so I followed the call of the material.  After carving the bird, it seemed so white that I had to add a bit of color.  Once started, never ends.
