From the same block as TRAV FEM. I started the head by placing the face in the block so that a major vein would be symmetrical on the face. While working, the vein opened up, turning to dust, creating a vacant space instead of the brown band which I thought would be more graphic than physical. I thought I might lose the piece, that it would break in two, but the.crystals on top held the whole together. This is a great illustration of how the artist's hand determines the just outcome. No machine or assistant could have made the same decisions.
